It is estimated that human trafficking generates many billions of dollars of profit per year, second only to drug trafficking. Drugs can only be sold once, but a person can be sold over and over.
Sex trafficking is defined as using force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of commercial sex act, or in which the person induced to perform such act(s) has not attained 18 years of age. The greater Milwaukee area has a sex trafficking crisis. Traffickers look for people who are vulnerable for a variety of reasons. Victims can be male or female, rural or urban, any race, any social class, any age. It is an invisible crime that is happening everywhere, including all 72 counties in Wisconsin.
